So, you're thinking about getting Botox, and everyone in your life has an opinion. Your sister swears it took ten years off her face. Your mother will never admit she's had it. And your husband claims he doesn't have an opinion.
With all of the information out there, it can be difficult to decide if you're the right candidate for Botox. As with any surgery, cosmetic or otherwise, the more informed you are about the procedure, the more confident and empowered you'll feel in your decision to move forward. If you've noticed fine lines and wrinkles around your forehead and/or mouth, suffer from tension headaches and migraines, deal with excessive sweating, or simply want to feel better about the way you look, Botox may be right for you.
Most of us have had Botox, and we are more than happy to talk with you about what to expect during your procedure based on our direct experience. Basically, Botox contains a substance called acetylcholine that relaxes the facial muscles that cause fine lines and wrinkles, whether they form from expressions, reduced collagen production, or an absence of free radicals in your body. About one unit of Botox per wrinkle or line in the problem areas is applied, and the cost is usually based on the number of units you purchase. You and your doctor will discuss the number of units you feel comfortable with. Remember that many patients begin with a smaller number of units and then add more on their next visit.
Botox, though not without side effects, offers more than just cosmetic benefits. As previously stated, it can help with headaches and, as some studies suggest, even ease depression. It's important to keep in mind that results are temporary, so if you're unhappy, (and even if you love how you look!) the results will wear off in about three months.
Botox is a relatively simple and safe procedure and has gained popularity over the years -- there's virtually no stigma anymore. We're happy to answer any further questions you may have (and trust us, we've heard it all.) What are you waiting for? Get in touch with us to day to schedule a consultation and an appointment.
